Series Collapsed

The works in Series Collapsed were arranged to animate a humorous, intuitive, conceptual response to a current “apocalyptic fever”. An infinity symbol (∞) broken and whole is repeated as a motif throughout the show.

In the sculpture Magic Eye, I assembled together hundreds of iPhone screenshots of palindromic numerical timestamps I took over the course of the year 2021—2:22, 9:59, 8:08— into a document of intuitive synchronicity.  The screenshots were printed as the same size as my phone (          ) and installed as an eye shape behind multiple pieces of custom sized plexiglass into a wall sculpture at the scale of . I intended for Magic Eye to emphasize the fluctuating cycles- many intuitive- that pervade our lived experiences.

I considered  the broken infinity symbol as representative of the end of existing social structures but with the potential for imagining new alternatives….It also resembles a butt. I have this drawing that inspired most of the show.  Its the bottom half of an infinity symbol with a bent leg extending off what looks the right buttock.  I love this as an action and a symbol.   Kicking out of this loop. And. Stepping into.   This show was installed theatrically. I lit the path between the two rooms with a hot pink light splashed onto the wall, and played a soundtrack above both rooms of birds chirping and a distance flying airplane- connecting to the yellow taxi-dermied bird at the entrance of the show ( a nod to “canary in a coal mine” as signal of collapse).

In both rooms hung the same glossy red aluminum print of a butt in different configurations.   Butt2Butt is a single image of the two halves of the but forming a circle. But, but… butt, is 60 aluminum prints arranged in a circular swoop.
