THE INTERVIEW
The Interview was a part of my solo exhibition “Red in View” at the Whitney Museum of American Art and “The Interview: Red, Red Future” at the Contemporary Arts Museum of Houston. Museum visitors could pick up a hotline phone that was staged in front of a photo-collage of the planet Mars, and be engaged in an anonymous conversation with a live interviewer about Mars, spiritual beliefs, extra-terrestrial themes, and the effects of militarized and colonizing behavior on Earth. I personally spoke to over 450 strangers as an anonymous interviewer. The conversations ranged from 5 min- 2hours. I treasure this artwork for its capacity to create intimacy between strangers to discuss the difficult subject of the effects of colonizing behavior from a personal position.
With Sabo Day, in 2020 we began to organize transcriptions of these conversations into a book designed as a phone book titled “RED PAGES”.
